Last week I was invited to two events where I needed to bring an appetizer.
I always feel, as a nutritionist, the expectation for me to provide a healthy appetizer is quite high. Whether this is true or not, it doesn’t matter, because I always want to serve healthy, delicious food. By the way, ‘healthy and delicious’ do not have to be mutually exclusive and these two recipes are proof.
I prepared and brought with me SunSpread Pate as well as Gourmet Pumpkin and Sunflower Seed Pate .
Both are humane alternatives to pate made from animal liver, but you don’t have to be a vegan or vegetarian to enjoy them.
These pates were a big hit even for my friends and family who are meat eaters. One couple, who I have nick named the Flintstones, because of their meat-loving tendencies, absolutely love the pates.
I love these two pates because they are loaded with antioxidants, healthy essential Omega 3 oil, protein, vitamins and minerals.
And if there is any leftover (which I doubt), take some as a snack to work or serve as a side at dinner.
They’re very yummy served with a nice organic Pinot Grigio.
As a bonus, both recipes make fairly large portions and they freeze well for future enjoyable snacks or you can make half the recipe.
