How to Make a New Year’s Resolution Stick

Over 50% of Canadians will make a New Years Resolution in the next few weeks and most will have to do with health, wellness, life balance and financial responsibility. However by February the majority will have been given up on, forgotten or attempted merely on alternating Tuesdays and Thursdays.

At holihealth we turn New Years Resolutions into the “new normal” and create a lifestyle with just a few small steps. We do this by adding to our lives.

Many of you may be thinking, “but we all have so much, the last thing we need is to add”.

Please bear with me as I explain:

Many people will resolve to “not eat carbs in 2013”. Which, in theory is great but without proper planning and/or understanding of what a carbohydrate is and does in our body, may leave you wandering about in a brain fog with little energy and insatiable cravings for sweets. Inevitably leading to failure by January 9th.

How about trying this:

“I resolve to add one new colourful vegetable every evening with my dinner.”

Add something new, nourishing and energizing each and everyday. As the variety and seasons change and the beauty of your dinner plate becomes something to look forward to (we eat with our eyes first), the white, simple carbohydrates that contribute to weight gain and lifestyle diseases naturally get pushed off the plate.

Voila, a Resolution fulfilled, a new normal, more energy, more colour and feeling better, all by simply adding one new item a day.
